No shake needed. This is the best wind checker of all time. The smoke lasts and is highly visible. Not sure if your supposed to but I just blow it without the grenade.

Best wind checker out there

I’ve used powder puffers for many years, and while they work well. You have to shake them constantly. I picked up the grenade and an unscented cartridge beginning of last season. I’m still using the same cartridge now and it’s mid season, so it definitely last a long time. I haven’t tried the scented sticks, but the unscented hasn’t drawn any attention and I have used it right above many deer. I have it clipped to the strap of my hunting pack so I can check wind going in to make sure I chose the right stand for the wind. Then when I am in the stand I check several times just to monitor any change. Definitely 5 star product! Simple, effective, great price, and long lasting.

Excellent for low light

Reading wind while coyote hunting at night can be difficult, the non scented wyndsticks have an ambient LED light that illuminates the vapor even in no light conditions. The grenade is a must have for all our sets, we don't hunt without them.
